Greetings and welcome to our debut newsletter,
The Trembling Wilburys have played some great gigs recently, from Barnsley to Watford to the Hard Day’s Night 50th anniversary day at the Turks Head in Twickenham, and most recently at the Brian Epstein Tribute Lunch at Regents Park Marriott Hotel on June 29th.
Our performance went down a treat and followed the unveiling of a Blue Plaque for Brian Epstein at the old NEMS offices next to the London Palladium in Argyll Street, attended by members of Brian’s family as well as such names as Adam Ant, Bill Harry, Tony Bramwell, Mark Lewisohn, Martin Lewis, Vicki Michelle, Geoffrey Ellis (former NEMS MD), Tony Crane (The Merseybeats), Nico McBrain (Iron Maiden), Les Reed OBE, Eric Hall, Mitch Murray, actors Nicholas Parsons, Andrew Sachs and Andrew Lancel, who plays Brian in the new play ‘Epstein – The Man Who Made The Beatles’ (see below). Everyone agreed it was a fantastic day and a long overdue and fitting tribute to the ‘Fifth Beatle’, while others like Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Cilla Black, George Martin and Billy J. Kramer sent personal messages which were read out on the day.
Next up we’re heading to the Broadstairs Folk Festival on August 13th, a mid-week gig in the picturesque Kent seaside town which was home to Charles Dickens, so if you fancy a day out we’d love to see you there. We’re on from 7pm-9pm, see www.broadstairsfolkweek.org.uk .
STOP PRESS! New gig just added on Sunday August 31st at the Half Moon Putney – we’ll be playing two sets, first up is our ‘Big O’ tribute followed by the full Wilburys experience with classics by George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne/ELO, the Beatles and of course the Traveling Wilburys. Doors open 8pm, starts 8.30pm, £10 advance/£12 on door. Buy tickets here: http://www.musicglue.com/whats-on/events/31-aug-14-the-trembling-wilburys-half-moon–putney/
Then in October we’re playing our first overseas gig as one of the headline acts at the annual Beatles Day in Mons, Belgium which should be quite an experience. Dave Stark is also being interviewed onstage about his experiences of meeting the Fab Four on various memorable occasions, while the day will also feature many other Beatles bands plus a talk with DS’s good pal Mark Lewisohn about his brilliant book “All These Years Vol. 1 – Tune In”. Visit www.beatlesday.be
Finally we’ll be repeating our Xmas Xtravaganza at Dingwalls in Camden Lock which was a big success last year. It’s on the same date December 3rd, so put a note in your diaries now. And of course we’re always up for any gigs, events or parties at any other time, so please get in contact if you have any opportunities, ideas or can recommend us to others. Dave Stark can be contacted on his mobile at 07956 270592.
