Trembling in to Spring and Summer

poster collageWe’re heading back to the Regents Park Marriott Hotel on Sunday 21st May for the HERITAGE FOUNDATION’S tribute luncheon to late actor and scriptwriter Jeremy Lloyd OBE, best loved for his iconic work on ‘Allo ‘Allo, Are You Being Served and Captain Beaky. He also appeared in A Hard Days Night and many other films & TV shows. Then on Saturday 27th May we’re making our debut at THE BULL THEATRE in Barnet, with support from blues singer/songwriter Tobi Earnshaw who was mentored by and played with the late great Andy Fraser of Free. Moving into June we’re back at the HALF MOON PUTNEY, always a great night and this time our gig on Sunday June 18th coincides with Dave Collison’s birthday as well as Paul McCartney’s 75th, so don’t miss it!

beatles 1day collageFollowing great gigs at London Welsh RFC in Richmond and Thameside Theatre in Grays Essex, a few of us Wilburys turned up at BEATLES 1DAY in Chiswick on April 30th, where the afore-mentioned Mr. Collison kicked off proceedings with a solo Roy Orbison set – well, the Big O did support the Fab Four back in 1963 so it was appropriate. Meanwhile our very own George, aka Glen Knowler, was delighted to model and take home an incredible Harrison-style flowery psychedelic jacket tailor-made by Ian Burns of BEATLESTYLE.com. They make all types of Beatles clothing replicas, from the Cavern to Shea Stadium, Sgt. Pepper, Abbey Road and beyond, plus shirts, ties, suits, hats & patches – they have it all! Trembling into Autumn 2016

Greetings from Wilbury HQ,

The band has been busy in the past few weeks with great gigs on Hayling Island near Portsmouth (Mill Rythe Holiday Village); at Chelmsford F.C. for It’s Your Music; and most recently at the Marriott Regent’s Park for the Heritage Foundation‘s 25th anniversary lunch with showbiz guests such as Barry Cryer, Nicholas Parsons, Su Pollard, Vicki Michelle and others. We’ve become the band of choice for Heritage events over the past few years and have just been asked to headline at their pre-Christmas bash on November 20th back at the Marriott.

Halloween is also coming up soon and we’ll be getting spooky on Sunday 30th October at One Kew Road in Richmond, formerly the legendary Station Hotel where the Rolling Stones played their first gigs in 1962/63.  The venue is now a great restaurant & bar with a live room on the first floor, while promoter Paul Endacott also runs the excellent “Swinging 60’s Bus Tours” starting from the Hard Rock Cafe en route to many historic music sites in Richmond, Twickenham, Eel Pie Island etc, ending up at our venue – so you might want combine an afternoon bus tour with our gig the same evening!

Next up after that is a return visit to Tropic at Ruislip on November 11th, a great venue we first played last year. Then it’s the Heritage lunch before we’re back at the Half Moon Putney on Sunday 11th December for a Wilburys Xmas special, while the seasonal celebrations continue at the Boom Boom Club at Sutton F.C. on December 22nd – make sure to book as this one will probably sell out.

Finally it’s great to report that our guitar wizard Dzal Martin has recovered amazingly quickly from an operation to remove a nasty tumour back in August, and is back on form at volume 11 as usual!  We also congratulate Bob Dylan aka Lucky Wilbury on winning the Nobel Prize for Literature, those crafty Wilburys get everywhere you know. Hope to see you at one or more of our upcoming gigs, and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook as well.

All the best,

Andy, Dave C, Dave S, Dzal, Glen, Howard & Marko

New Photos and Gigs Galore

Trembling Wilburys

We recently had a great photo session with top rock photographer Christina Jansen, who’s also well known for taking some iconic pictures of the late great Muhammed Ali. She snapped us at the Water Rats in Kings Cross before our show in June and we think the results are just superb – thanks, Tina!

Since then we had a great time headlining the East Barnet Festival in Oak Hill Park, fabulous weather and a great turnout. Then we’re back at the Half Moon Putney on July 10th before taking a summer break, returning on September 22nd for a special show at Mill Rythe Holiday Village on Hayling Island. Then it’s off to Chelmsford F.C. the following night for Nick Garner’s monthly rock night, before returning to the Regents Park Marriott for the Heritage Foundation’s anniversary event on Sunday October 9th.Collage2016

ROY ORBISON’S 80th BIRTHDAY BASH IN LONDON 23/4/16

roys 80thWe’re delighted to announce that we’ll be celebrating what would be the Big O’s 80th birthday on Saturday April 23rd, also St. George’s Day & Shakespeare’s birthday. Come down and enjoy some of the greatest songs ever written, by one the most iconic and legendary performers of all time, as interpreted by our very own Big O aka Dave Collison. Plus a bunch of Wilburys songs & other classics by George Harrison/Beatles, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty & Jeff Lynne/ELO.

The Tremblers have a special affiliation with Roy, as drummer David Stark was a good friend of Roy’s widow Barbara Orbison who sadly passed away herself on December 6th 2011, ironically the same date as Roy’s death in 1988. The Trembling Wilburys had only been formed a few months, but Barbara totally endorsed our special Roy “75th Birthday Bash” in April 2011 at The Castle on Finchley Road (where we started out), and organised boxes of Roy ‘Ray-bans’ and Black & White CD’s & DVD’s to give away at the gig, which was a resounding success.

The Trembling Wilburys

Thanks to everyone who came down to the Half Moon Putney recently, acclaimed as one of our best gigs by many despite a few gremlins in the equipment dept! It’s one of our favourite venues and we’ve been booked back for two more gigs this year, they certainly have good taste in SW London. Talking of which, we’ve also been invited to play on a regular basis at another venue a bit further down the Thames, details to be confirmed soon. Continue reading

The Trembling Wilburys – Handling Gigs With Care

The Trembling Wilburys is one of the most acclaimed tribute bands in the UK today, featuring a line-up of seven outstanding vocalists and musicians who play a wide variety of classic songs by rock super-group the Traveling Wilburys – plus a bunch of solo hits by George Harrison/Beatles, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty & Jeff Lynne/ELO.

Glen Knowler is completely uncanny as George (easily the closest look & sound-alike on the planet), while Dave Collison perfectly reproduces Roy Orbison’s unique vocal style and stage presence.  The band have been enthralling audiences for the past couple of years with their totally magical 2-hour show –  Set 1 features solo hits, while Set 2 is the full Wilburys experience plus a few other surprises.

“Wow what at great group the Trembling Wilburys are, hope you have them back again. Everyone said how great they were on the night. Look forward to seeing them again, can’t wait. Regards Elaine.”

BOOMING IN SUTTON & MOONING IN PUTNEY!!

We recently had a fantastic night at the Boom Boom Club in Sutton on August 30th, where these great new photos were taken just minutes before we went on stage (thanks to Kate Weston for snapping). The audience included ex-Wings and Wild Angels drummer Geoff Britton, while sound engineer Bevo Bailey and daughter Sheena did a superb job for us.  We also welcomed our old friend Mike Berry down at the Half Moon Putney where we played for the third time in a year on September 20th, while we also had a lot of fun at Livestock Festival in Enfield over August Bank Holiday. Watch out for new gigs being added all the time!

It’s Not Cricket, It’s The Wilburys!

Leg Before Wilbury

Leg Before Wilbury

Summer’s here, the cricket season is in full swing and the Wilburys had a blast at Sunbury C.C. recently, where we bowled a few maidens over and scored a big hit with our 2-hour rocking show. As you can see we also had a lorra fun on the pitch & sight stand, we’re only a seven-man team but we sure know how to handle our bat & balls with care – howzat?! Continue reading

EXCITING NEWS! Following our successful appearance at last year’s Brian Epstein tribute event, we’ve been asked to perform at the Heritage Foundation’s “Lunch with Jimmy Tarbuck & Friends” at the Regents Park Marriott on Sunday June 21st. This is sure to be a star-studded event with many celebrities coming to mingle with the legendary Liverpool comedian whose name is synonymous with the Beatles & the Swinging Sixties, and we’re thrilled to be closing the show at the Marriott once again. Tickets are available at £84.00 each on the Heritage Hotline from chairman David Graham on 07703 397270.

Trembling into 2015

The Wilburys have a had a rockin’ great 12 months, ending with our second Xmas Xtravaganza at Dingwalls, and our final gig of the year at the Royal Oak in Hampton. Thanks to everyone who came to see us in 2014, from Barnsley to Broadstairs, and from the Half Moon in Putney to Beatles Day at Mons in Belgium – it’s a been a great ride to the end of the line, sorry end of the year..

Wilburys at Dingwalls

The Wilburys At Dingwalls

But never fear, we’re back in early 2015 with our first Midlands gig at The Roadhouse in Birmingham on February 13th, followed by a return to the Half Moon on March 1st and visits to Farncombe, Surrey (March 20th), The Horns, Watord (April 5th), Tropic of Ruislip (April 24th) and others tbc – keep an eye on the website and our Facebook page.

We also hope to have a live recording or DVD out sometime during the year as promised, plus some other merch which we know many of you have been asking for. We’re also hoping to add a few new tunes to the set during 2015, although quite where we’re going to fit them in we have no idea!

Finally, big congratulations to the late great George Harrison (aka Nelson Wilbury) who’s being awarded a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys on February 8th – very much deserved, and we’ll all be there with him in spirit in the night. As the man himself said, “Handle With Care”.

Best from all the band,
Glen, Dave C, Andy, Dzal, Marko, Howard & Dave S.
