The Trembling Wilburys – Handling Gigs With Care

The Trembling Wilburys is one of the most acclaimed tribute bands in the UK today, featuring a line-up of seven outstanding vocalists and musicians who play a wide variety of classic songs by rock super-group the Traveling Wilburys – plus a bunch of solo hits by George Harrison/Beatles, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty & Jeff Lynne/ELO.

Glen Knowler is completely uncanny as George (easily the closest look & sound-alike on the planet), while Dave Collison perfectly reproduces Roy Orbison’s unique vocal style and stage presence.  The band have been enthralling audiences for the past couple of years with their totally magical 2-hour show –  Set 1 features solo hits, while Set 2 is the full Wilburys experience plus a few other surprises.

“Wow what at great group the Trembling Wilburys are, hope you have them back again. Everyone said how great they were on the night. Look forward to seeing them again, can’t wait. Regards Elaine.”

BOOMING IN SUTTON & MOONING IN PUTNEY!!

We recently had a fantastic night at the Boom Boom Club in Sutton on August 30th, where these great new photos were taken just minutes before we went on stage (thanks to Kate Weston for snapping). The audience included ex-Wings and Wild Angels drummer Geoff Britton, while sound engineer Bevo Bailey and daughter Sheena did a superb job for us.  We also welcomed our old friend Mike Berry down at the Half Moon Putney where we played for the third time in a year on September 20th, while we also had a lot of fun at Livestock Festival in Enfield over August Bank Holiday. Watch out for new gigs being added all the time!

Wilburys at Brian Epstein Tribute

Trembling Wilburys Rock the Room

The Wilburys played a great finale set at the Heritage Foundation tribute lunch to Brian Epstein at Regents Park Marriott on Sunday June 29th after the Blue Plaque unveiling in Argyll Street, London W1 where Epstein’s NEMS company was based from 1964-67. Wilbury drummer Dave Stark helped to organise the event and spoke at the unveiling, along with Heritage Foundation president Vicki Michelle and Adam Ant, to a crowd of around 200 plus press, radio and TV.

Beatle-related guests at the lunch included Bill Harry, Tony Bramwell, Geoffrey Ellis & other ex-NEMS staff, Joe Flannery, Tony Crane of the Merseybeats, authors Mark Lewisohn and Kevin Roach, Martin Lewis, songwriters Mitch Murray and Les Reed, actor Andrew Lancel who plays Brian in the new play “Epstein – The Man Who Made The Beatles” which opens at Leicester Square Theatre on July 30th (www.epsteintheplay.com), plus Andrew Sachs, Nicholas Parsons, Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden and many others.

Messages were also read out from various Epstein clients & friends including Paul McCartney who wrote, “I know Brian would have been very proud to think that he had earned a Blue Plaque in the West End of London. He played a very important role in guiding the early career of us Beatles and more than that he was a lovely man whose friendship we all valued and who I will always remember with great fondness. Congratulations Brian, love from Paul McCartney”.

Stars come out for Blue Plaque unveiling

We were without bassist Marko ‘Jeff Lynne’ Laver on the day but our good pal Spike Jefferson stood in for him most admirably. Everyone loved the set – except the Queen, or rather her look-alike, who complained we were much too loud. Well, that’s rock & roll your majesty, and if ace guitarist Dzal Martin sees you again he says he’s gonna kick ya in the crown jewels!!

All in all it was a really great day and the Wilburys went down a treat. Next stop Broadstairs Folk Festival on August 13th and Belgian Beatles Day in October, we are of course up for any gigs or events in YOUR area subject to availability and fee – contact Dave Stark on 07956 270592.

Trembling Wilburys at Dingwalls, Camden Lock

The Trembling Wilburys ended 2013 with two great Christmas gigs, the first at the legendary Dingwalls in London’s Camden Lock, and the second at our pal Denis Cook’s new venue, the Flamingo on the Pond in Watford. The Dingwalls gig was also drummer Dave Stark’s SongLink 20th Anniversary party, and saw a great turnout of music industry friends and supporters, along with many new faces seeing the band in action for the first time. Wilburys Meet Wombles Man As Cribbins Is Honoured!

Glen and Dave with Bernard Cribbins

Glen and Dave C meet Bernard Cribbins

Showbiz legends were in abundance at the Regents Park Marriott Hotel in Swiss Cottage on Saturday 16th November, when the Heritage Foundation paid special tribute to actor and comedian Bernard Cribbins OBE on achieving 70 years in the business. Best known for narrating The Wombles TV series; his appearances in three Carry On films; two hit records (‘Right Said Fred’ and ‘Hole In The Ground’) plus appearances in Doctor Who, Jackanory, Fawlty Towers, Wrong Arm Of The Law and many other TV programmes and feature films, Cribbins (84) was delighted to receive recognition from his peers at the Heritage Foundation’s annual Christmas Lunch. The glitzy event (complete with crackers, turkey & mince pies) concluded with a full set by the Trembling Wilburys, whose singers Glen Knowler (as George Harrison) and Dave Collison (as Roy Orbison) are seen flanking Cribbins. This turned out to be one of our best performances yet, and a great warm-up for our special Xmas party night at Dingwalls in Camden on December 3rd. Continue reading

London Beatles Day Report

Rod Davis with the Wilburys

Rod Davis with the Wilburys

The Trembling Wilburys returned to London Beatles Day on Sunday October 20th for the third time to play a short acoustic set, marking exactly 25 years of the original Traveling Wilburys, which was well received by a highly appreciative crowd. The event was also much busier than usual due to the presence of author Mark Lewisohn talking about his mammoth new Beatles biography “All These Years – Vol. 1: Tune In”, and signing copies all afternoon in an adjacent room – thereby sadly missing our fine set (!) which consisted of ‘She’s My Baby’, ‘Dirty World’, ‘If I Need Someone’, ‘Here Comes The Sun’, ‘You Got It’, ‘End of The Line’ and ‘Handle With Care’.
